Watkins Glen, New York is known for it’s waterfalls. This waterfall out of many others was my favorite. I’m not a huge fan of the real touristy spots when there are gates and signs and concrete barriers stopping you from going any further, though I do usually visit them. For most popular scenic destinations, that is the case! But my favorite are the hidden gems you can walk right up to and experience hands on! Wall, warning and gate free! This waterfall was just that. There is a main road that passes right over it and many people stop and see it on the side of the busy road. My family and I decided to see if we could make it to the bottom and explore. We did have to ask a few of the friendly locals if we could pass through what seemed to be their drive way. They were more than happy to point us toward the base of the waterfall. One guy actually said, “Oh yeah, jump in the river and climb the falls! You can walk right up it like stairs! I almost gasped as he said this. I’m so used to being told what I cannot do and where I cannot go by threatening “Warning” and “Keep Out” signs. They're all over! Who wants to get sued? We were pumped! We drove down to the falls feeling so good, like we were VIP. We get there. Not a single person! It was EPIC! You had to be there. We took the mans advice. We jumped in and started climbing! A truly incredible experience I will never forget.
