I shot this in Ithaca New York at the bottom of the Finger Lakes in March. I went with two friends who had been to the area previously, so they were able to show me a few cool places. I actually saw this waterfall from some photos they took while here so I already had in mind what I wanted the shot to look like. This waterfall is what inspired me to go to Ithaca. I needed to shoot this! The first sight of the falls was awe-inspiring. I’ve never seen anything like it. The crashing water gave off a mist that you could feel from hundreds of feet away. It was freezing cold that week so everything within a hundred feet was covered with a sheet of ice because of the mist. I wanted to use a wide-angle lens to capture the size of the falls but I would be too close and my lens and camera would get soaked! I had to back up pretty far and use a different lens to get my shot. The rock I’m standing on was all ice and super slippery so I had the hardest time, but it’s where I needed to be! At this time there must have been 50 people viewing the falls and I don't know what they were more interested in, the waterfall..or me slipping and sliding attempting to stand on this icy rock in the middle of the river trying to take a photo.
